The S5 and Note 4 are a couple of the best phones on the market, but I think they need to drop the price another $100 if they want to see sales go crazy again.

FWIW, looks like Samsung's management disagrees with you. From what I've read, Samsung's launch plans for the Note 4 are far more aggressive than for last year's Note 3 (50% more aggressive). From Apple's performance, it's clear (to me) that the premium handset market is alive and well. It's just leaving money on the table for Samsung to try to compete on price, when price is not the main basis for competition in that segment. Phones like the MotoX and iPhone 5C aren't going to find much success at the $500 cheap premium segment. Better to drop another $100 and be in the premium cheap segment (the next segment of iPhone growth, IMO).
