all the phones seem to be bent in one specific area and the guy doing the bending in the video seemed to be putting pressure in one specific area that he has figured out is easy to bend (this is my humble opinion).
Take a look at Twitter hashtag #bendgate. It's far from one guy finding a weak spot and taking a video. Throngs of users - many diehard Apple fans - are showing real pictures of phones warped through normal use. In most cases, it's subtle warping rather than dramatic bending, but few people are comfortable with an expensive phone that won't lay flat and jeopardize screen performance through a warp.
Today this bending issue was mentioned all over the net, so what should Apple do at this point? Should they address the issue and communicate with their customers or let it go as non-story?
If they speak about it, they need to be careful not to go the route of telling people not to sit on or bend their phones. It would be condescending, and everyone already knows that a super-thin phone made of aluminum needs to be treated with care. They might also want to avoid offering to give away free protective cases, not because it would cost them huge amounts, but because it's admitting a flaw that cannot be adequately fixed through a protector. They could admit the flaw and reiterate an extra liberal policy of refunds for damaged units, but the cost of that would be enormous. Tough position they're in because it's not an easy fix like a software update, cheap replacement part, or suitable workaround.
