From the multiple views I've seenIt seems like a single weak spot near the volume buttons. I don't see bending anywhere else. The kind of bending I would imagine from a tight front pocket would be like the back of a flask. I've not seen any bending along the longitudinal axis. Bendgate would seem to be a fairly easy engineering fix, if not a retrofit. A little reinforcement in the volume button area should do the trick.

I am in agreement with you that there is a specific weak area, but from these views I really do not see a specific reason why all the bending is coming from one area close to the volume button.
