<<I don't know why 3Dfx haven't struck a deal with Intel, Compaq, Dell or any other major players.>>

Good question. 3Dfx appears to be very alone in a big pond, they could definately benefit from a big brother. They do seem to have all the software guys on their team but it is debatable as to whether that will be enough.

We all know that Intel already has their fingers in 3Dfx as an investor but the relationship doesn't seem to have any visible tactical payoff yet. AMD have a K6-3D 400MHz CPU planned for late next year so IMHO Intel will compete either directly with its own on-chip 3D or, indirectly via 3Dfx. Option 2 seems more likely to me.

Banshee, a 3Dfx AGP capable 2D/3D solution, is not due out until Q3 '98. That is the volume potential product they need if they want to stand alone and rule. But a lot will happen before Q3 '98. Will Banshee have Voodoo 2 speed? If it does you won't be able to pair it with another V2 because the pair must use the same bus type.

Damn this is a tricky market! It's like 1988 and you want to invest in Apple but you just don't know what that other outfit will pull out of their hat next.
