If there is net buying in the GDXJ, it's due to funds and institutions.
Retail certainly isn't buying here.

I question the GDXJ numbers - something doesn't quite add up.
According to the Van Eck website, there are 67.89 million shares outstanding (as of Sept 26th).
If the number of shares increased by 3.55 million, that would only be an increase of 5.52% - 3.55*100/(67.89-3.55)

It is interesting that the GDXJ was not re-balanced according to the Market Vectors model.
Semafo was not removed - however, its weighting was reduced to 3.88% (from 4.25%)
Also, GDXJ has a position in GDX (3.56% weighting).

Maybe the GDXJ is too large - meaning that it would need to buy too much of the float of some of its constituents in order to reflect the model weightings.
