What do you mean open up their OS? That is like asking Pfizer to give away its processes or have Coke reveal its formula. This is private intellectual property. We are talking about private property rights here.

The browser is in effect no more than a means of accessing data on the internet and this same tool is available for all others to use as they choose. The web is a source of data just as the keyboard the scanner the CDROM and the hard disk are. The job of the OS is to govern the access and out put of data through the cpu. What you are suggesting is that the government is now in the business of determining what input functionality an operating system might have.

You are right the other browser makers don't have an OS but no one is stopping them from attempting to do so. IBM, not a small company, has a product called OS/2 - why don't they build a browser for their OS. Should we outlaw the thin client ( a stripped down OS- albeit cleverly named) from being intergrated with a browser? What are you folks thinking about or is anybody thinking before they put their fingers to the keyboard? Forums are not driven as a poll might be, they are places where reasoned arguments are put forth for reasoned discussion. That by the way is why liberals hate the internet- they cannot shout it down!
