you should say you have no idea where self awareness comes from.
But that wouldn't be true. I know a lot, but not everything, about brain functions. I studied the subject quite a bit when I worked on artificial neural networks. It's really amazing to see a lifeless bit of silicon and copper recognize and respond to a stimulus such as a conversation. (The NSA likes to tell you that they don't have near enough people to listen to all the phone calls they monitor, but they do have plenty of computers which can follow a conversation well enough to get that conversation of a list for further review).
