I have three external, USB-connected hard drives on my system running W7 Pro 64 bit. At some point recently, the drive letters mysteriously changed from GH&I to IH&G, respectively. All of the automatic and semiautomatic backup programs (e.g. Acronis & SyncToy) that interface with these disks recognized the changes, which is why I didn't immediately notice they had changed.

How can this happen? I have searched forums, but haven't found any relevant conditions that caused similar occurrences. No new software or hardware on this stable system. Malwarebytes & Norton come up clean. Any ideas?

Thanks.
