Then Randall misunderstood what was said at the conference or was asleep. MSFT explained that disentangling the browser from the latest OS was like straightening out a bowl of spaghetti the; items were inextricably entwined. The only OS they could offer on short notice in response to the judges ruling (which in itself was outside the scope of the question put by DOJ) was either one that wouldn't boot because to separate the 2 items would render the system inoperable or an older system that would operate but would lack the ability to sign on to the network of the evil empire and some other minor details. Certainly MSFT is not going to build a new OS before the merits of the case are resolved especially when their consent decree w/ DOJ only involved Windows 95.

I was quite assured by MSFT but I had to wonder what the analysts in attendance had for breakfast.

This whole case is pathetic and has far reaching consequences concerning the ownership of intellectual property.
