Several weeks of Apple Watch commentary

OK, this is pretty awesome:
Hodinkee | A Watch Guy's Thoughts On The Apple Watch After Seeing It In The Metal (10 Sept 2014)

The follow-up question is obvious::
Fortune | How many watches will Apple Inc. sell in 2015? (10 Sept 2014)
The estimates we’ve seen range from 10 to 60 million. Average: 22.6 million.

The conservative end of that spectrum:
Barron's | Apple: Piper Tempers Expectations for Apple Watch Uptake (1 Oct 2014)

How big is the smartwatch market, anyway?:
Forbes | Echoing The iPhone, The Apple Watch Will Capture The Lion's Share Of Smartwatch Revenue (11 Sept 2014)

Note this comment from the Forbes article by the same writer a day earlier: " Strategy Analytics survey of the smartwatch scene in May this year estimated yearly smartwatch sales at 700,000 units. Samsung had a 71% share with its range of 'Gear' smarwatches, with Sony and Pebble each taking an 11% share."
So the expectation is that smart watch sales will increase from 700K in 2014 to 22M in 2015. That is a 2000% increase, folks. And it's a pretty good indication of how lightly Apple's competitors have taken this space before now. And how they might be licking their chops to follow Apple into this brave new space, just as they did with iPhone, the first real smartphone:
USA Today | Watch those wrists: Apple move may spur sales (12 Sept 2014)

But who wants to follow Apple (again) for a small fraction of any market, expanding by 2000% or not? So of course no roundup of a breakthrough Apple product would be complete without a competitor trying to talk it down:
The Telegraph | Apple Watch 'too feminine and looks like it was designed by students', says LVMH executive (11 Sept 2014)
The guy sounds like Dvorak, heh.

But what choice do they have when this is the alternative?:
Yahoo! Finance | Swiss watch industry denies 'Nokia moment' from new Apple Watch (10 Sept 2014)
For those who aren't familiar with the "Nokia Moment' reference, it's brutal:
The Wall Street Journal | Full Text: Nokia CEO Stephen Elop’s ‘Burning Platform’ Memo (9 Feb 2011)

To the perspective of this board, which owes a lot to Apple's emerging commitment to allow partners to build devices in Apple's ecosystem, here we go:
9to5Mac | Intel-owned Basis announces new iOS-compatible ‘Peak’ smart watch (30 Sept 2014)
I wouldn't be surprised to see more iOS-compatible wearables introduced before Thanksgiving.
