DALLAS—The Liberian man who was diagnosed with Ebola in Dallas, the first case of the deadly disease in the U.S., died on Wednesday morning, the hospital treating him announced.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas said Thomas Eric Duncan died at 7:51 a.m. Wednesday. He had been in critical condition for days, and hospital officials a day earlier had said he was receiving life support assistance from a ventilator and dialysis machine.

Mr. Duncan was also receiving an experimental drug, brincidofovir, to treat his Ebola, hospital officials said. But the all-out effort to save his life still failed, underscoring the lethality of a disease outbreak that has killed more than 3,000 people in Africa, according to the World Health Organization.
