Traffic at shopping sites rises 50 percent, report shows
The number of visitors to shopping Web sites has increased by almost 55 percent in the past year. The latest report from Web traffic tracker Media Matrix also says 23 percent of teenagers on the Web visited shopping sites.
A spokeswoman for the researchfirm told Internet Daily that November data, due within the next week, will show whether the Web is becoming a major retail factor this holiday season. In the most recent results, Media Matrix reports the commerce site with the largest increase in traffic was Amazon.com, reaching 5.9 percent of Web users in October 1997, compared to a reach of one-quarter percent in October 1996. Amazon is also the top shopping site among all Web users, followed by CNET software download, Columbiahouse.com, Hotfiles,com, and Surplusdirect.com.
Media Matrix president Mary Ann Packo said "Shopping is one of the most rapidly growing Web categories, and is especially fast growing and popular among teenagers." The top shopping sites for teens are CDnow.com, Amazon.com and Musicblvd.com. |
