What are they missing? They see a diminishing United States and an expanding opportunity for a return to Ottoman power. Given their size, history, and regional influence, they are matched only by Iran, Egypt and (in terms of military and economic power) Israel. In between are the rump states of its former empire, just waiting to be consumed by the strongest.
