Greystone--I thought you might like a biography of 'Dad'.
James T. Kirk's exploits were partially documented in serveral movies and a TV series 'Star Trek'. The series was produced in the 1960's and was popular though it very much understated Capt. Kirk's exploits.
The most scandalous event portrayed was a kiss between Capt. Kirk and a black female crewman. This was the first interracial kiss on television. Remarkably no particular stir was created by the fact that the black crewman was one of the few members of his own species he was to kiss in the series.
The full story of James T. Kirk was far more remarkable than that partially documented on the television series. The period of his life most interesting to biographers was the five years when he had command of the starship 'Enterprise'. Star Fleet Command had given him the assignment to "Develop better means of contacting, communicating, and furthering interpersonal relations between humans and various alien life forms." There had been a number of misunderstandings and Star Fleet Command felt the charismatic Captain might be able to improve on the existing methods of relating with aliens. No one in Star Fleet expected the interpretation Captain Kirk was to place on these orders.
The television series because of the nature of these contacts and the prevailing attitudes of the time chose to show only the humaniod sexual escapades of Captain Kirk. In truth in a display of libido seldom if ever before matched the good Captain was to work his way though a variety of life forms never before equaled. Early in the voyage the crew began calling him "Captain Kink".
Upon his return a stunned Star Fleet Command prompted sealed the Starship's log and siezed his diary. In addition to the incredible sexual achievements Star Fleet Command was troubled by the method he chose to explore new planets. The Captain would send vital crew personel including the ships doctor, first officer, and himself in the initial survey parties where they would typically be assaulted, kidnapped or (as Kirk seemed to hope) seduced. For some reason all alien life forms encountered would promptly slaughter any available security forces. No other voyage in Star Fleet history was to inflict such carnage on security forces. Security personnel on these missions rightly came to view the assignments as death sentences.
Star Fleet Command did not know what to do with what the head of Star Fleet called "The interstellar pervert". So they dispersed the crew, promoted Kirk to Admiral, and supressed all records of the voyage.
A breakout of war between the Federation and the Klingon Empire generated enough distraction that the voyage was forgotten. Only recently have the records of the voyage come to light.
