The viking kingdom in Hardanger did not convert peacefully. During the medieval warm period the christian forces were able to cross the glacier at the sorfjord. Previously the region of Kinsarvik was approachable only down the narrow Hardangerfjord by boat and the christians did not have boats nearly good enough to fight vikings in those waters.
