You really have to look carefully at this. It is important to recognize that HIV's R0 is so much higher because people live longer with it. EBOLA patients spread the disease to fewer people because they're dead quickly, while HIV patients can live a very long time asymptomatically.

In terms of the sheer ability to "catch" Ebola, it is easier. (No one needs to wear HazMat suits when around someone who is HIV positive).

I think it is absurd for the president to be claiming Ebola is "hard to catch" while the cable networks are showing everyone within 10 feet of these patients dressed in full hazmat protection.

There is a disconnect.
