Stitch,

Thanks for reply on Maxtor. I had heard a few weeks ago from a Maxtor employee that indeed Hyundai Construction Co. was working 24 hours per day on their factory in China with goal to occupy by the end of next June in order to get tax benefits promised by the government. He says it was originally going to be a Hyundai automobile factory but they decided HDD would be a better opportunity (now I hope they may change their mind again and turn it into something else like a refrigerator factory).

I have a hard time imagining who and how the cutbacks will occur in HDD expansion plans to bring some real stability to the industry, since so many of the remaining players have deep pockets and are hungry for long term growth opportunities (IBM, Fujitsu, Hyundai, Samsung, NEC, Hitachi, Toshiba, in addition to Quantum, Seagate, WD).
Does anyone have a scenario for movement toward long term HDD Industry stability that you are willing to post?
