One of the silent epidemic's in the U.S. is a disease called Babesia. It is a parasite which infects the red blood cells similar to Malaria. Some strains are not so bad but Babesia Duncani is as bad as malaria. It is a tick borne disease. The CDC has been keeping borrelia (think Lyme disease and its controversy) and other TBD's under the radar.
