Its been true since the beginning of civilizations in country & urban life that humankind of any age can't handle very much reality & opt for stories & fables. Even today look at yourself, or Joseph Smith who read pirate stories in 1820 mixed with biblical fairytakes, then creating a new fairytale "Mormonism" with an arch angel founder named after a pirate city in Madagascar. Does it matter to any Mormon that their 'angel' was really inspired by a fabled pirate treasure tale? (Joseph Smith just like those 500BC Hebrew scribes didn't think anyone would ever catch on)

Since when did you fail to get a memo that its never made any difference whether things ever happened or not but those superstitions & wild fantasies can still have profound psychological effects?

Its called fiction & people even today experience at blockbuster movies and many lives are being changed even today. Ever heard of the plays of Shakespeare?
Great operas? Works of fiction like Gone with the Wind?
