BTW, I just sent an eSuggestion to the Ball Jar company to make extra wide jars and caps so you could eat right out of the jar.... be great to carry to work with a salad in it or whatever and all you would have to do is remember to bring a fork. (If you layer a salad in a Ball Jar - on the bottom is the dressing, next are the fixings like chopped cucumber, shredded carrots and beets etc, and then on top is the lettuce - it keeps for a week in the fridge and all you have to do with the capped jar is to turn it over and wait a couple of minutes and then pour out into a salad bowl.)

My idea you would pack the salad in the extra wide jar the same way, store in the fridge and then turn the capped jar over several times, open and stir and eat the salad right out of the jar.

There are books on using Ball jars for meal storage just like the ones you mentioned and they provide more than just salads. You can use them for soups and stews etc - and if we had extra wide mouth jars, you could nuke the jar with a soup or stew in it and eat it right out of the jar. What could be simpler, less expensive and convenient?
