Welfare of all types distorts markets and causes dependency behaviors with bad effects on the economy. We have direct evidence from when the Newt Gingrich and the Republican controlled congress finally forced Clinton to sign welfare reform that the surge of people entering the workforce helped the economy grow. Evidence is not proof, but we have ample evidence that all forms of welfare damage the economy and the people who take the payments.
