I've got one that seems similar from the late 90s:

But it focuses on operational elements of UI design, which I really don't have trouble with (well, generally). I think where I really get into trouble is with view color, transparency, and layering, and trying to determine what looks good. iOS really provides the tools for it, but I think I lack that kind of creativity. One of the difficulties I constantly face in my current project is that it is directed at autistic children who often can "stim" (be stimulated by) an overdone UI. So, instead of focusing on the target they can stim on the graphics. So, we're trying to make it look decent while not providing animation and graphics that will distract. Unfortunately, it is often an adult making the buying decision and they may be put off by the lack of that kiddie UI. So, it is walking a pretty fine line.
I'm going to check that book out, though. Need all the help I can get ;) |
