Well Oliver, I understand the outgoing call drop out, but the incoming call how does that work? Do you have to have call waiting enabled on your line? That's the only way I can imagine the phone company being able to interrupt your line. I am not questioning whether they do, just wanting to understand how that works.

Getting to the point of the ISP's though look at it from their pov. Their biggest cost in having you as a customer is their incoming phone line pops. Now if you are using twice as many when you connect, doesn't that basically double their cost of having you as a customer? If they don't charge more then they may be out of business. Some may carry this capability as a loss leader, but I think that would change if it ever became popular.

But look at the cable modem model of connecting. You save the need for a second phone line all together. You save the need for an ISP. Here in my area, that comes to more than the cost of the modem service. I know several people that have it and they will never go back. 300kb uploads and 1.5M downloads, connected full time. $40.00/mo. Needless to say, I am sold. And it won't be long before I'll have one here.
