Folders and Files are a pretty good metaphor (Apple I believe) for Unix directories which is pretty opaque to most people. Its like the steering wheel on cars or QWERTY. There might be a better way, in fact in the case of QWERTY we know there are more efficient systems, but... its not a wise idea to change an interface that is widely established and understood. It just doesn't happen very often.
