I think what you really fear isn't atheism but pantheism & paganism if one just keeps things simple. It was that pagan wisdom which was always the source anyways, especially after the Hellenes came to town. For that's when your 'god' gets really really big, so much bigger these later scribes even drunkenly cobble in stories that he could defeat the Pharoahs of Egypt! You see how they were learning from the Greeks in their midst? You even get the Intelligent Designer, which is all in your mind of course and even there these Greek philosophers explore & investigate the human psyche too.
