But looking at the economics of it I think the cable companies are in a much better position to deal with these cost issues as they have the benefit of cashflow from their cable business as well. I would bet that a typical cable bill of say 40/mo for tv content and 40/mo for internet access gives them many more opportunities for making a business than an ISP only getting 20/mo per customer.

While I agree with you that fully loaded systems from cable operators are not yet tested, their cash flow will give them opportunities to throw more technology at their problems, than ISPs will have.

I also think that ISDN is past prime time now. I have heard several discussions of xDSL offered in other parts of the country that seems more interesting than ISDN.
