Oldest Bit of Earth Ever Discovered

This crystal fragment measuring twice the width of a human hair is the oldest dated piece of our Earth. Roughly 4.5 billion years ago the Earth was a molten ball of magma. This crystal from a sheep far...m in western Australia formed just 100 million years later - 4.4 billion years ago. The date was determined by uranium-lead radiometric dating and atom-probe tomography. It is significant because it supports the idea that the Earth cooled earlier than previously thought, allowing for oceans and life to form.
