Dear Mark,

Let me clarify Ron's statement.

We prefer that active, formerly moderated boards have a moderator. Generally, it is very helpful to have someone who is a participant and understands the established decorum within a group help maintain it. We like seeing long time boards last, it adds credibility to the subject and to the site. A tended farm generally does better. Moderators are able to maintain the headers and logos as well, keeping the subject relevant and current.

That said, there is certainly no requirement that any board have a moderator.
