Nurse Kaci Hickox Says She Won’t Follow Maine’s Ebola Quarantine

Kaci Hickox, the nurse kept in a tent at a New Jersey hospital before being moved to Maine, says she won’t abide by a home quarantine.

“I remain appalled by these home quarantine policies that have been forced upon me, even though I am in perfectly good health and feeling strong and have been this entire time completely symptom free,” Hickox said today in an interview on NBC’s “Today” show.

Hickox, who on Oct. 26 blasted New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for her detainment, is staying in Fort Kent near the Canadian border. She wouldn’t have emerged from Maine’s 21-day quarantine until Nov. 10.

Hickox was detained for Ebola monitoring at Newark Liberty International Airport after returning from work in Sierra Leone with aid group Doctors Without Borders. The nurse was taken to University Hospital in Newark on Oct. 24. She said the fever she registered upon arrival was due to anger.

Kevin Roberts, a spokesman for Christie, didn’t immediately respond to a phone call or e-mail seeking comment.

Adrienne Bennett, a spokeswoman for Maine Governor Paul LePage, didn’t immediately respond to a phone message and e-mail.
