Kulicke & Soffa Receives $8 Million Order
For 1488 plus Wire Bonders

Willow Grove, PA, December 16, 1997 - Amkor/Anam Pilipinas, Inc. has placed an $8
million order for Kulicke & Soffa (NASDAQ: KLIC) 1488 plus gold ball bonders
for continued expansion of its Manila, Philippines production facility. Delivery of the
machines is scheduled for December 1997.

According to AAP's Mike O'Brien, corporate vice president of packaging and testing,
the gold ball bonders will be used in the assembly of virtually all semiconductor product
lines manufactured at the Manila factory, including quad flat packs (QFPs) and ball grid
arrays (BGAs).

"The decision to purchase 1488 plus bonders was based on our previous
experience with these machines," O'Brien said. "K&S wire bonders continue to meet our
demanding performance requirements, and the company's support programs keep our
cost of ownership at a minimum. For these reasons, we consider K&S a key supplier."

"The 1488 plus, introduced in the second quarter of 1996, has been tremendously
successful because of its productivity and flexibility," said Michael Wolf, K&S vice
president of sales . "Its industry leading capabilities have resulted in significant market
share growth for Kulicke & Soffa, and we shipped more than 1,000 of these machines
during each of our last two quarters."
