In the corporate/medical environment, a one to one matching may be all that is needed. That one to one comes about by entering the user id follow by biometric inpute.

Frankly, most of us are not schooled enough to fully understand HAAPI, so your critque of HAAPI can not and should not be taken seriously.

Why did DOD chose NRID and not someone else? Why not IDX, BAT, etc? One answer is that DOD is extremely concerned with computer/internet/intranet/extranet/ security and that it sees NRID s/w (SAF Window NT, SAF Unicenter TNG, and SAF Microsoft Server IIS) as viable solutions to computer/network/internet safety. Correct me if I am wrong, but there are no product line rivaling NRID's. So, DOD may have challenged NRID to do an API for all biometric mediums in exchange of allowing all users to access the SAF product line. Will HAAPI be successful? Only time will tell.

As to companies running to Congress to protest because of DOD giving NRID an unfair advantage, I wouldn't worry about that. Again what choice did DOD have? I believe that DOD's intent was to push biometrics along and if the biometrics are not able to access the SAF products, their biometric products are nothing more than expensive paper weight.

Jaffo...incidentally, the City of Sarasota, Florida has signed a contract with CAI on Unicenter TNG w/ single sign on. The velvet CAI coat tail at work, folks...and it is only beginning.
