"Hard to deny that the period from 2001-2007 was a period of economic expansion"

So has been the period from 7/09 until sometime in the future. When it stops, nobody knows. Lots of people guessed 8/09. They were wrong.

As the data show, the Obama stimulus and other federal programs restarted GDP growth by the third quarter of 2009. Under the NBER's technical definition, the Bush recession which began in December 2007 ended in June 2009, making it at 18 months "the longest of any recession since World War II."

When Bush left office after 8 years, we had created 1.11M jobs.
First 4 years under Obama, 1.5 M
2nd term thru June, 3.6 M, with about 600K more last quarter. If we keep that up for the rest of his term, he'll be close to what Raygun did in his second term. Maybe Obamacare will be the stimulus he needs to accomplish that.
