As a veteran of tech betas, I can tell you that there is no point in avoiding these when they are so cheap. Yes it might drop to 10 but so what? Buy more. I went through the dip last spring last fall, and if you take some profits when everyone loves the stock and buy when everyone hates it, you will outperform the S and P by a wide margin. I was pretty happy to buy shares at 9.75 when the stock was at 40. Even given the recent carnage, this stock is still up 30-40 percent in a little over a year. In five years there will be more chip fabs than in 1997, and thats the bottom line. Techs are stocks for young people who have plenty of time to weather storms. Anyone who needs the money in a year should completely avoid technology and buy bonds. Use analysts as contrary indicators unless there is fundamentally something wrong with the company i.e. Apple or Micron.
