<<The big threat is the abolition of the income tax - any thoughts on that?>>

I can't see that happening. With all the faults of our present, it is better than a flat tax which would be horribly regressive. And most proposals for a flat tax really call for a "progressive" flat tax (if there is such a thing) but they are still highly regressive. A sales tax has even less chance than a "flat" income tax. Not only would a sales tax also be regressive, but it would have to be extremely high to raise the revenue needed. Its effects on the economy are hard to calculate, but it could well be an extremely deleterious experiment.

The new mortgage business of hrb seems promising. I think the biggest threat to hrb would be competition from another company. One that focused on relatively low income tax payers was just taken over. (I forget the names of the two companies; you probably know them.)

Not as interesting as high tech, for sure, but i am happy with hrb's recent action. jes
