I studied Christian massacres of the Jews enough in my youth to last one life time, it was how remarkable they were at massacring each other like Sunnis & Shias today that was the great revelation later.

As you saw, even they are cowed by their own intertribal religious civil wars & violence . The Greeks gave them reason, philosophy, structure which finally snapped some of them out of it & something more to live for.
