That *should* increase the speed of database access significantly.

But, I don't think that's going to solve the main problem. I will be very surprised if it does.

Frequent page displays of 10 seconds or more are NOT the result of "slow" database access.

And they are NOT the result of search engine robots "misbehaving".

If you have really have an hourly backup of your transaction logs that slows down traffic for 60 seconds, then removing that bottleneck will help a lot ... but only during that 60 seconds.

The best way to improve performance of a specific task is to avoid doing the task in the first place.

Instead of a scheduled backup process, you should consider "simultaneously" writing transaction log records to 2 separate disks so you don't have to back them up at all. Flash drives will make the resource overhead of that process insignificant (for your purposes).

OK, so here's where you say you've already thought of that.

Good for you.

Now, how about blessing all us folks who have been here since the early days of SI by giving us ad-free access. That would certainly decrease the frequency of my performance complaints. Sure, I could easily pay for a life membership, but it's the principle of the thing that torques my jaws.
