I agree. The "relative time" change is an abomination dreamed up by somebody who is in his own little world where details don't matter. "3 hours ago" is close enough for somebody like that.

But, for people whose daily tasks involve specific activities at specific times, "3 hours ago" is totally useless. That could mean anywhere from exactly "3 hours ago" to "3 hours and 59 minutes ago". That is a HUGE variance. Even worse is "Yesterday", or "last Wednesday".

If there was a good explanation of why the new format is better FOR USERS, then maybe we could appreciate the change. But, WHY would somebody take the time to change it from a standard HH:MM format to a "relative time" format when there doesn't seem to be any benefit to the USERS? In fact, it's a DETRIMENT to users.

Was that "enhancement" in the list of user-requests? If not, then WHY were limited resources expended to implement it?

Dmitri didn't dream up that ill-conceived "enhancement" all by himself. Other forums were using the "relative time" concept long before SI started using it. Did Dmitri (and the rest of the SI whiz kids) make a conscious decision simply to mimic other sites? I sure hope not. But, I can see no other reason.

For a business to stay competitive, it has to provide value over and above their competitors. Spending time to implement logos and useless time formats is NOT the way to do that.

Business acumen is sorely lacking in the current SI regime. Management of resource utilization (both personnel and computer hardware/software) is woefully inadequate.

However, it ...

Sure is a pretty day.
