I would paraphrase it to say Europe saw more genetic change than America because Europe has mountain chains and the Mediterranean sea that stretch east-west and therefore form a barrier to north-south migration. America provided clear north-south pathways for animals from the unfrozen south to migrate to the north as the ice melted. There are subspecies of animals now in north and south,.

In Europe there were new species, primarily of insects.

The animal I found most interesting was the horse. The wild form of horse of the ice age has gone extinct and all that remains are horses domesticated by humans, some of which have gone feral in the mean time.
