I'm in the pessimistic camp for now. We may need a major upheaval/disaster ie Great Depression for the pendulum to swing back towards the people. Even then it would probably take a politician with George Clooney's looks and Bernie Sander's knowledge to get elected on a populist ticket.

If one is elected and he gets a decent congress, first order of business should be to fix this ridiculous campaign finance situation we have now. Kill the beast at the source.

Am hoping technology advances fast enough that we can head off at least some extreme climate change.
It sure doesn't look like we'll be doing it politically. That's a whole other ball of twine....
