My understanding is the shingles virus lays dormant in your nervous system after chickenpox. It is always there and if you become immune suppressed.....it has the opportunity to multiply and produce symptoms....shingles. Hence reason why it is more prevalent in us old farts. So trick is to keep up a healthy immune system....otherwise u can have multiple episodes.
If u follow natural remedies....garlic...colloidal silver are both potent antivirals.....although I may have just stirred up another debate. LOL
