OMG. More "settled" science, I guess.

The reality is it does work. It has worked for decades, centuries, millennia. Which is the reason people keep doing it.

In fact, the techniques have been practically perfected now, such that it isn't really "torture" as much as it is part of an entire regime of interrogation techniques.

The way it was applied by the Bush CIA totally made sense: Reserving it for the most critical intelligence and that for which the result could be confirmed.

It is nasty business but sometimes it is essential and productive.
