their mothers may have actually worn army boots

My mother wore army boots. She received three bronze stars in WWII for nursing in the middle of battles. In one raid her hospital was bombed and the supply ship sunk and so she was transferred to the British Army until a new U.S. hospital group could be organized. The new group was in the Army Air Corp, so she got another new uniform I have copies of her orders as well as the letters she wrote home. Matching the dates on the documents really makes lines like "I'm sorry I didn't write last week" take on a whole new light.
