NMS: FDJA) a recognized world leader in video signal processing and video
image enhancement products, Tuesday announced that it expects to deploy beta
versions of its Picture Plus Upconverter in the field during January 1998 with
Tribune Broadcasting, Four Media and Modern VideoFilm.
* Faroudja's product for professional broadcasters utilizes the company's
patented technology to deliver HDTV-quality video images from today's analog
(NTSC) and digital sources. The upconverter is intended to provide
broadcasters with the ability to leverage their existing studio equipment and
systems to produce programming in various digital television
(DTV)/high-definition television (HDTV) formats.
* Faroudja's products substantially reduce the imperfections inherent in
interlaced analog NTSC, digital serial 4:2:2 and D2 signals and they
dramatically improve displayed images, resulting in a far richer viewing
experience.
The technology incorporated into the Picture Plus Upconverter includes
* Faroudja's broadcast decoder, noise reducer, de-interlacer, scaler and video
enhancer.
* Since 1971, Faroudja has specialized in the development, manufacturing and
sale of products to the broadcast industry. Over its 26-year history,
* Faroudja has sold equipment to ABC, CBS, NBC, The Dish Network (Echo Star),
PrimeStar, USSB, AlphaStar, TV Com and CCTV (China).
Today, images are displayed on a variety of electronic media, including
