Alec, I was (and still am) expecting a substantial bounce as the year ends. Longs will delay taking profits but shorts will cover losses. And there are not many stocks where longs need to take losses. So I was watch carefully for the dip to reverse. That was a clear and easy to follow strategy, calling the top of the bounce will be much harder. Giving the difficulty of calling the top, I am starting to build short positions incrementally as it goes up.

Although I don't expect a big crash before year end, the potential increases greatly after January 1st. The longs will lose their aversion to taking profits and start bailing out at the first sign of trouble.
