An Oscar-nominated documentarian was arrested for shoplifting late Friday afternoon when he switched the price tag on an expensive pair of designer jeans, a law-enforcement source said.

A security guard at Century 21 on the Upper West Side noticed director and producer Steven Cantor acting suspiciously as he fiddled with a pair of Dolce & Gabbana jeans costing $499 at around 4:30 p.m.

“Something about him was just not right,” the law-enforcement source said.

The Emmy-award winner grabbed another pair of less-expensive jeans, priced at $299, and then headed into a dressing room with both pairs. While pretending to try them on, he allegedly ripped out the tag on the Dolce & Gabanna pants, replacing it with a tag from the cheaper pair.

But he left the $499 price tag behind — and the suspicious security guard found it, the source said.

“You’re coming with me,” he told Cantor, who was just about to pay for his designer duds.

The movie maker waited in the store’s back office until cops arrived. Cantor wouldn’t speak to the cops, who issued him a desk-appearance ticket for petit larceny.
