The 10 + 2 lessons from history about student demonstrations :
.
1. They start off with idealistic motives but soon escalate to extreme, impossible demands.
.
2. The government, especially faced with major demonstrations for the first time, does not know what to do and therefore does nothing
.
3. The general public initially sympathize with and support the students' idealistic motives, but then when the demands become extreme public support fades until finally the public are tired of the whole thing and oppose the demonstration.
.
4. The moderates protesters drop out and are replaced by radicals (often non-students
who just enjoy demonstrating for the fun of fighting with the police )
.
5 The initial moderate leaders are replaced by extremist radicals.
.
6. The radical demonstrators dig in and escalate to more extreme tactics
.
7. The radical leaders fight among themselves for supreme leadership
.
8. The whole demonstration deteriorates into internal anarchy
.
9. Anarchy turns into extreme violence
.
10. Finally the government is forced to use extreme measures to counter extreme violence
.
_____________
.
Oooops ! .... I accidentally omitted the last two lessons :
.
11. The original moderate leaders try to distance themselves from the radical extremists (but no-one takes any notice )
.
12. A few radical extremists go on futile hunger strikes (but no-one takes any notice)
.
