All excellent points, Ken, points that probably are not being taken into consideration or at least not being openly recognized by Microsoft's boosters.

A few months ago, I downloaded IE and installed it. Several hours later, I heard my modem click. IE was, all on its own, dialing my ISP. I canceled this dialing operation and deinstallied IE. I wonder why this autonomous attempt at connection with my ISP happened. Netscape never does that. I was not using IE's mail program and do not have my mail program set to automatically check for mail. However, as a precaution, I now exit to DOS, never leaving Windows resident while my computer is turned on and I am not using it.
