I want to play a video file on my PC, and have it show up on my TV.

I have an HDMI cable, and the PC has an HDMI port as does the TV.

So....what do I do?

I have connected the PC to the TV using the HDMI connection. How do I force the video feed to go over the cable? If I play a video file on the PC now, it plays normally with sound coming out of the PC system, and nothing appears on HDMI 1 channel on the TV.

Other than just connecting the two devices via HDMI, is there something else I need to do to tell the PC to send the video and sound stream over the HDMI cable to the TV?

I've followed the step by step instructions here, but am getting nothing but a black screen on my TV. The TV is a high end HDTV Sony system, but about 6 years old.

Sound - I was playing music out of my PC, and when I hooked up the HDMI cables the sound stopped, so it seems like it's trying to send the audio over the HDMI rather than through the PCs speaker system.

But still, no picture or sounds out of the TV.

Any suggestions, or better step by step instructions than on that website?

Thanks in advance.
