Actually, I came rather late to most of that stuff myself. I did watch the original series (known as The Original Series, TOS) on NBC during their initial broadcast, but I wasn't into watching the repeats and didn't really care for most of the Star Trek movies. I stumbled onto the 4th sequel TV series (actually a prequel) "Enterprise" back around 2004 on a Sunday midnight and gradually got into it, and then binged through the DVD's and got caught up quickly just as the series was ending. At this point, I felt like catching up on the other three sequels. "Star Trek-the Next Generation" is the one most 40-55 year olds who were into this sort of thing can relate to, which ran 7 years compared with the original's three. I never could get into it during its run ('87-'94), but it was okay on DVD. The mid-late 90's sequels "Deep Space Nine" (with the African American captain) and "Voyager" (with the woman captain), were much further advanced in special effects, and look more acceptable from today's vantage point. I think Sheldon and the gang hated Voyager for obvious reasons. Anyway, I had altogether 17 seasons of sequels which took 3-4 years to go through. Occasionally, I'll spot TOS on the channel lineup, but I find it kind of "campy" and really can't get back into it. The new movies were okay, but it would be nice to have another fresh TV series. More than you wanted to know, huh :)
