Can Andy Grove keep profits up in an era of cheap PC's? Well it looks like for the last week of Christmas shopping there are virtually no advertisements for computers OVER $999 appearing in the newspapers here other than for Apple. Most of these $999 machines feature an Intel 166MMX and are up to 32MB. There are virtually no advts. for AMD. They must have exhausted their production. There are still some Media GX's at $799. I can't imagine that Intel is going to have a very profitable quarter.
